Installations le long du Gange commençant dans la haute vallée du Gange dans l'Himalaya, là où il se nomme Bhagirathi, d'abord à Gangnani, minuscule station thermale, située à une trentaine de kilomètres de la source de Gangotri, inaccessible par cause de neige. Le deuxième site choisi est juste en amont de Uttarkashi, la première ville. Ici le Bhagirathi à pris un peu de largeur pour ne devenir fleuve et Gange que peu avant de sortir de l'Himalaya et de se jeter dans l'immense plaine à Haridwar, lieu où j'ai travaillé sur les galets. A partir d'ici le Gange se trouve généralement éloigné des grandes lignes de communication, et il n'y a pas de transport fluvial utilisable. J'ai difficilement pu trouver un quatrième arrêt avant Varanasi, cité historique liée comme aucune autre au Gange.

Installations along the Ganges starting in the high valley of the Ganges in the Himalayas, where it is named Bhagirathi, starting at Gangnani, tiny thermal spa, located at about thirty kilometres of the source at Gangotri, inaccessible because of snow. The second selected site is just upstream of Uttarkashi, the first city. By here the Bhagirathi has got a little wider, to grow to a river and be named Ganges only shortly before leaving the Himalayas and flowing in to the immense plain at Haridwar, where I worked on the pebbles. From here the Ganges is generally far away from the broad lines of communication, and there is no useful river transport either. Thus I could hardly choose a fourth stop before Varanasi, historical city related like no any other to the Ganges.

Pour le delta du Gange j'ai choisi trois points, un sur le haut du triangle, là où il fait frontière avec ses plus de 20 km de largeur, à Rajshahi sur la rive du Bangladesh. Restent les deux extrémités du delta où les eaux alimentent la Baie du Bengale, éloignées de pas moins de 400 km. A l'est se trouve le Meghna près de Chittagong, qui a aussi recueilli le Brahmapoutre, puis à l'ouest le Hugli finissant sa course à la hauteur de l'île de Sagar, après avoir traversé Calcutta.

For the Ganges delta I have chosen three points, one on the top of the triangle, where it is a country border with its more than 20 km of width, in Rajshahi on the Bangladesh bank. Remained the two ends of the delta where the waters feed the Bay of Bengal, distant to each other more than 400 km. In the east the Meghna near Chittagong, which meanwhile has also collected the Brahmaputra, then in the west the Hugli river finishing its run at the level of Sagar island, after having crossed Calcutta.

Fleuve mythique le long duquel on se trouve toujours confronté à son impact culturel et religieux. Mon travail n'est pas sensé avoir une connotation ni vouloir être religieux, étant fasciné par l'air, l'eau et la terre, je l'ai fait comme le long du Mékong et du Rhin, tout en saluant les rencontres, le dialogue et partage qui peut se créer sur place par l'exécution physique des œuvres et leur abandon sur site.
Le choix et le mélange des poudres de couleur se font par une interprétation de la lumière et du caractère de chaque lieu pris individuellement.

Mythical River on whose whole length one is always confronted with its cultural and religious impact. My work is not meant to have a connotation nor the desire to have anything religious, but being fascinated by the air, water and the earth, the same as I did along the Mekong and the Rhine, welcoming the encounters, the dialogue and share through the physical execution of the works created on the spot and their abandonment on the site. The interpretation of the light and the character of each place taken individually do the choice and the mixture of the color powders.
